Fashion Month Recap: Trends Spotted

Hello again,

it's been a hot minute since my NYFW review. Oopsie. I feel like instead of a thorough fashion week recap, maybe I should combine my favorite moments from the fashion month catwalks in a mega, all-encompassing post! Lucky you.

We all know that what most fun part is: joining the dots. When I'm looking through endless collections searching for similarities, I feel like a little kid working out a puzzle or something.

So what is the general consensus for Spring 2016? The way I see it, it's romance. How does one revive romance in the times of Tinder and Grindr? Oh that's a silly question. Romance never died. It just takes on a new shape and form.

Another theme that was very obvious in a hefty amount of the SS '16 collections is nostalgia. I feel like there was some reference in every collection. The 70s and the 90s dominated, as expected, but I saw some 40s there too. There was a sense of escapism, a need for old school decadence and glamour.

Designers are going back to the basics. They're truly keen on revisiting classic shapes, femininity and elegance. Not all of them though. Some are always pushing further, trying to provoke and make fashion evolve and move forward,

The combination of the two is the most inviting. We're in the times of retro futurism. Nothing ever comes back the same. There's always a new approach, a new twist to every old concept.
