Fashion Conundrums: Mixed Prints

Hello fashion world,

I admit that activity on this blog has been rather minimal (if not non-existent) and I'm ashamed. Lately I've been placing all of my efforts on my other website, The Athenian Chic, which is more travel/lifestyle-oriented. However, maintaining this blog and fueling it with interesting content is on top of my priorities this year.

If there's one thing that keeps me from posting often is that there's a lot of work that usually goes into curating a post. I want the advice offered on here to be informed and well-rounded and actually useful to someone.

So following up on an idea I had back in December, I decided to start a series of posts on how to tackle various fashion conundrums and offer my personal take on them.

On top of my list of "tricky trends" was a styling practice I actually love which is none other than mixing prints.

Print mixing is admittedly a controversial trend and usually reserved for hardcore fashion fanatics. Most people tend to shy away for fear of looking clownish or out of place. It's definitely intimidating at first, but if you follow a few simple cues you might find another world of creativity hidden inside your closet. And that is the reason why I love styling. Fun, unorthodox pairings can make you re-discover old favorites or breathe new life into items you thought you had no use for.

From Summer To Fall: 7 tips to step into the season

Here we are again..

Tan lines fade and suitcases are finally being put away as we slip into September's dullness and new beginnings..

Remember when I did a post last season on how to achieve a smooth style transition from winter to spring? (You can check it here) Well, I felt it was only appropriate to do a post on now to avoid the awkwardness of having nothing to wear when the weather  does not say summer but not exactly scream autumn either. For me at least, changing up my style over that period of time helps me avoid the bore that September can be and I want to share with you 7 fast and economical ways you can get that yourself.

SANDALS vs OXFORDS/BALLERINAS

While sandals scream beach and summer dresses, ballerinas and oxford flats are the perfect preppy answer to the question what shoes to go for. Time to pull those out again and give your summer wardrobe a twist.

How To Wear It: Plaid

Plaid has been for most of the time a familiar and a rather safe choice for Fall and Winter. However designers took it to a new level this season. Wearing plaid can be challenging now. You risk looking like a prep school student and this autumn plaid is going beyond looking preppy and put together. I guess in the fall collections there were more tamed, high-end versions of punk looks rather than comme-il-faut plaid skirts like the ones we were used to.

I tried to create 3 versatile outfits- each featuring a different plaid item. Each look corresponds to a different style, age and personality.

How To Wear It: Plaid

Wal G peplum mini dress, €18 / Topshop rib shirt, €52 / Sea, New York peplum top, €285 / Ganni coat, €340 / Rag & Bone mid-rise jeans, €170 / Moschino green tartan skirt, €800 / Zara black wedge ankle booties, €46 / Repetto round toe flat, €215 / Casadei brown sandals, €820 / Michael Kors gold tone bangle, €150 / Mawi spiked collar necklace, €585 / Cateye glasses, €7,62

The first item is a cute, girly, preppy shirt that you would imagine a classy urban girl in her late 20s- early 30s wear. To balance out the girliness of the top, I chose a pair of boyfriend jeans and bright flats to make this look practical for a multi-tasking, busy woman that spends here whole day out.

The second item I chose is a pleated mini skirt, the one that a very young girl will pull off. This girl is fun, but kinda hipster, she doesn't take fashion seriously and she doesn't think through her outfits entirely. She loves dark colors and these wedge boots make her legs look good and give that "rock chick" edge.

The last item is an oversized coat. This outfit is ultra ladylike, chic and has an uptown vibe to it. It's a about the classy woman that shops at Bergdorf's and invites her girlfriends to tea. It's basically an outfit that is very classic and can work for every woman, whether she's 25 or 45.
