Fashion Dupes: Fall/Winter '17-'18 Edition

Hello my lovely fashionable people,

It's been a hot minute since my previous post but I've been working on something that  required a lot of my energy and time and I wanted to present you something complete and well-rounded.

Fashion "dupes" are a rather controversial topic among the fashion community. Some claim that it's essentially theft of intellectual/industrial property and disrespectful to the original creators. Others say that they're democratizing fashion. Note that we're not talking about "fakes" here and illegal products that pretend to be of a certain brand in order to make money off the label. This is about high street brands namely Zara and Mango that draw their inspiration from designer items with much heftier price tags.

The key difference is that while wildly similar, the much more affordable versions of these high end goods are usually not quite the same. The design is "inspired by" the original not a downright copy. And naturally, the quality and craftsmanship are nowhere near the same. But sometimes when an item is too trendy to be considered an investment, is it worth it to dish out hundreds if not thousands of euros for what's gonna be a one-season affair? That's up for discussion. While there's no doubt that a camel coat or a Chanel bag never lose their value, there's plenty in the market now that might as well be a fashion fad and nothing more.

For the most of us however, it's not even a case of "investing" or not. For a college student, "investing" in the real Miu Miu pair of flats isn't even an option. So if Bershka offers a somewhat similar cute version, this uni student will take it.

So to cut this short, here is my round-up of the best fashion dupes on the market right now.

Outfits Of The Week: 11/7 - 11/13

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a follow-up on my weekly outfit series (you can find the previous installment here). I love doing these casual lookbook type of posts, so you can see what I'm actually wearing on a day to day basis. That way you can draw inspiration and find ways to update your current style in a realistic way.

So let me guide you through my weekly wardrobe for mid-November:

Outfits Of The Week: 10/31 - 11/6

Hello hello,

Happy weekend!

That feeling when you come home on a Friday afternoon, take off your shoes and jump into bed is hard to beat. Right now I'm comfortable on my couch after a long day typing this post and I'm about to watch the new How To Get Away With Murder episode, all cozied up with my blanket and tea. Heaven.

On The Go Beauty

Hello my lovely people,

As I was doing my makeup the other day I was thinking of which products can see me through from school to bar and which do I prefer for makeup on the go. Which ones do I run to whenever I'm in a rush and just want to get the job done? Which ones can I just pop in my purse and use at school for a quick touch up before I go to dinner?

My Current Top 5 Fall Nail Polish

Essence 52 / Essence 10 / H&M Roseraie / H&M Red Cacao / Essie Angora Cardi

Hello everyone,

We're already halfway into fall? What? How did that even happen! Feels like it was just yesterday we were bidding adieu to summer. The weather though has been so warm and kind that it was easy to forget we're on our way to winter. Not gonna lie though, I kinda want the temperatures to drop a little so I can start wearing all my awesome new fall finds *hehe*.

Summer Dresses For Everyone

Hello dear readers,

Did you miss me? (lie and say yes). I certainly missed you. Getting back into the game has been fun. I loved reading your positive feedback under my latest post, and I'm looking forward to pleasing you again.

I believe that the dress is the one summer piece of clothing that's the most covetable. It's easy to throw on, feminine and unfussy. The variety is so big it's sometimes hard to pick the styles that suit you. Below you'll find suggestions for different body types which might be helpful:

Summer Dresses For Everyone: Petite

Thank God over the years many clothing stores (although not enough) have created a line dedicated to petite ladies. Over at Asos there is a huge array of fab styles to choose from that has something for everyone. If yo have a very narrow frame, I would suggest to try out feminine, fit and flare cuts that give the illusion of curves in the right places. I think a midi dress is always a good option if you want to add height with the help of the right heel of course.

Get Them For Less: The Season's Hottest Items

Well hello there,

I know it's been freaking ages since I last posted. I went to Vienna to see my best friend, then I came back and then there was the (Orthodox) Easter holidays and after that I just felt uninspired. There's literally no excuse other than the latter. I just wasn't feeling piped or excited enough for something in order to write about it.

However as summer approaches day by day (not today though - it's gloomy and gray and gross), I'm starting to regain my enthusiasm and inspiration for all things fashion and beauty so brace yourselves for what's to come!

For today's post I came up with what I deem to be a pretty original idea: I present you the high-street dupes (as in Zara, Mango, H&M) of the season's hottest items. Because let's be honest, trends are fleeting and if money isn't exactly oozing out of your pockets, there's no reason why you should spend 500 on the shoe du moment (unless you just want to - which is an entirely different deal). However I'd never encourage someone to purchase a cheap imitation from an illegal source. We're not talking about knock-offs here, just affordable items that make for great alternatives to their net-a-porter counterparts.

Olivia Palermo Summed Up 3 Major Spring Trends In One Single Look

Hello my dearest readers,

If you've been reading this blog for a while now, it should be no secret to you that I adore anything Olivia Palermo. I'm not one of these people who idolizes celebrities for their way of dressing, I can draw some inspiration but usually that's it. However no one's looks are as compelling as Olivia's. She's truly a modern style icon. In fact she's just that. She's simply famous for having awesome style. It might not be much of an achievement for some, but I'm personally grateful for the constant outfit inspiration she provides me with.

What I love most about Olivia is that you can always rely on her to find out about the trends of the moment. Just a quick search on Pinterest - and there you have it, all the hottest looks for the upcoming season.

Now that the Holiday season is long gone, I can only crave one thing - spring and summer (okay that's technically two things). Sunny meadows, long walks in the country, endless beaches, evening breezes and ice cream. Just like in that Passenger song: "only miss the sun when it starts to snow".
It's that time of the year then, that I do most of my spring wishlist planning. And the things on top of my list have OP's seal of approval:

Shirt: Johanna Ortiz, Shoes: Dolce & Gabbana, Jeans: Frame Denim, Bag: Analeena

Let me break it down for you:

Steal Her Style: Olivia Palermo

Hello lovelies,

Are you excited for New Year's Eve yet?

It took me forever to figure out my NYE plans and they're finally all set. That night tends to be quite stressful. You feel like you have to go somewhere, you have to have fun. Word of advice: don't give in to the pressure. If you don't feel like doing anything save yourself from the crazy traffic and crammed clubs and bars and stay at home. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I know because I was literally ready to give up making all these plans, because it was just so stressful. But I somehow managed to arrange something for that night.

In case you're still wondering what to wear on the big night I have a couple of posts dedicated to that:
The New Party Makeup
Celebrity-inspired Partywear
Festive Casual Looks

But now on to something entirely different: this post has some serious dose of Olivia Palermo inspiration (if you didn't figure it out already lol). If you've followed this blog for some time now you might have noticed a have a slight obsession with Olivia Palermo and her style. I mean who can deny that, that woman is perfection. She goes from modern glamorous to boho chic in no time and she always manages to look polished wherever she goes. That is my motto: look polished no matter what you wear. Whether it is a simple tee, shorts and ballet flats or an LBD and stilettos make sure your outfit comes together and looks sophisticated and elegant.

I broke down for you some of her killer looks and recreated them using more affordable items.
